    Two Imperial tunics

    Gentlemen,

I've had these two tunics for close to 20 years and have forgotten what ever I know about them. What can you tell me about them and an estimate of price before I put them on the Estand would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Gordon

      #3,

The original shoulder boards on this tunic were blue with a red 16 on them. Not totally visible in the pictures.

            Hi Gordon,

I've been scratching my head over the first tunic you have shown. Typically, this lighter colored blue material was worn by either Bavarian troops or dragoons. Neither of these are a match to the blue shoulder straps with the Prussian one year volunteer cord. Those straps would be either for the Train Batl.Nr.16. or Inf.Rgt.Nr.16.

The red straps with the yellow 26 are most likely from Prussian Inf.Rgt.Nr.26. So, neither set of straps goes with this tunic. My guess is that it was originally a dragoon tunic from Dragoon Rgt.Nr.5. This unit had the light blue tunic, the red collar and Swedish cuffs with white metal buttons. There might be other possibilities, but I can't think of any at the moment.

The shoulder straps on the second tunic are also replaced. The Prussian Inf.Rgt.Nr.27 had gilt buttons and no colored piping on their cuffs. The buttons on this tunic appear to be white metal and the cuff piping white. Am I seeing the colors correctly?

              Chip,

Thanks for the comments. Not ones I had hoped to hear however. Both sets of shoulder boards on the first tunic certainly seem to match the age of the rest of the tunic.
On the second tunic, the piping is white and the buttons are gilt.

              Regards,

              Gordon

                Gordon,

I was afraid of that, as the gilt buttons often wash out to white in photos. OK, so that changes things a bit. The I.R.27 straps are still incorrect, but there are now other possibilities for the tunic with white Pattenvorstoß. It is still infantry, but those units that are possible are, the following, Grenadier Rgts.Nr.12, 13 and infantry regiments 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 24, 30, 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 50, 52, 53, 55, 56, 57, 58, 60, 64, 70, 97, 131, 137, 138, 155, 159, 174. Quite a list to chose from.

I have never seen an altered shoulder strap like that! Really unique piece. Maybe the one year volunteered changed units?

                    Chip,

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I'll have to think things over before doing anything to the tunics.

                    krb450,

Thanks for your comment as well.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon
