I thinks this is a Austro-Hungarian EM Cap for Husser. I found an Officer example in another thread searching the FJI insignia. Thanks for any additional information. Kirby

Kirby,
This type of cap was the "undress" cap worn by all branches of Austro-Hungarian cavalry (hussars, lancers, dragoons) from the 1890's right up to the end of WWI. It would not have been worn in the field past early 1915. It was called a "lagerkappe", meaning camp cap. It looks to be in pretty good condition and is a tailor made, private purchase piece. Even though enlisted men were issued regulation uniforms, many chose to purchase their own tailor made uniforms as a social status symbol. Nice find!

Personally, I am very interested in Austro-Hungarian items, especially headgear. It's out there, but nowhere near as numerous as Imperial German items.
Nice headgear still commands a good price, especially cavalry full dress pieces.
One of my goals is to acquire a nice dragoon officer's helmet. They are not cheap, but much less than an Imperial German kurassier helmet.
