    Thoughts on this Pickelhaube?

I know the dealer is a reputable one, but I was hoping for an extra set of eyes and opinions just to be safe. Its advertised as all original.

Do the chinstrap and cockades look right?

I personally don't see any obvious red flags. Some of the other guys should be able to chime in regarding the chinstrap but it looks OK from here. The unit marking is a different example that what ColonelJ has for Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 23, but I don't think that is something to get that worried about.

RIR23 was from Oberschlesien, its division (12. Reserve) ended up losing 71% of it's infantry effectives at Verdun in March 1916-- definitely a bloodied unit.

I've been wanting to obtain a nice M1915 Prussian haube for a while, and am willing to pay a little extra to get a nice complete one.

The chin strap looks original, and the Statskockard has the flaking of the white paint that is typical of an original. The colours on the Reichskockard look rather bright though, and may have been touched up or replaced.

Mark looks good. As has been mentioned it is different than our current example. Can I get your permission to copy and post this Mark picture to the list? I would also need your full name for the contributors list. Thank you for your consideration.

Well, I need to buy it first. But once, if, that happens, I'd be fine with it.

Got it in the mail today. Any additional thoughts now that I have some closer photos of the cockades and chinstrap? The national cockade appears to be pretty old and faded. Should I be put off at all that the chinstrap has brass fittings?

At least the chin strap is an original, and both Kockarden as well. If you have a steel helmet with steel fittings on the chin strap, you could switch them, but it would not be unusual for a M1915 to have the chin strap of an earlier helmet, either from left over stock, or a war time replacement. It could have been put there last week, but again, it is original.

Man! 52 1/2...that's the smallest one I have ever seen. No wonder it's so nice.

                      Gus,

What the heck is a "Statskockard"? Must be Idaho Ginglish.

Statskockard means State cockade and Reichskockard stands for National cockade

Thanks pzrwest. I know what he meant, I was just teasing him about the "made-up" word. The correct term is "Landeskokarde".
