Its stamped with 3.G.U.R 1909 So it should be for the Ulanen.

This piece is in wonderful condition.
I just want to be sure its a original piece and if it was intended for the ulanen

              Hello AGFA40,

These Unterhosen have several attributes of privately purchased examples. They have a commercial maker label and shell buttons, which are not typical of issue pieces. These factors make me somewhat suspicious of the ink stamps. On the other hand, it would not be the first time that privately purchased articles were given unit markings, but I would wonder why they would bother with adding a date.

I have six pairs of Unterhosen (yes, it's a fetish! ), and no two are the same. I have seen other issue Unterhosen from Saxony that are of yet a another pattern. Though Kraus only speaks of a few issue styles, I think there were actually more, both prewar and wartime.

In 1909 this pattern with the knit ankles was still only used by the cavalry. It was not until the war that heavier knit "winter" type Unterhosen were issued to the infantry as well.

My cavlary pair is double dated 1901 and 1910 (three Garnitur marks) and is marked to U.R11. It has zink buttons and many other differences in comparison to the piece shown.

I think the army's Unterhosen were modeled after the civilian patterns of the time and so it would not be out of the question to have a civilian pair doctored with marks that would give an otherwise relatively worthless pair some value. Just some food for thought.

              Regards,
              Chip

                Thanks for your opinion Chip,

It would be interested to find out its genuine
So we are talking about a pre-war unterhose tailored, but not for the military
But the Garde Ulanen Regiment Nr3 existed in 1909 and it could be possible a civilian contractor provided the unterhoses with unit markings so it would stay in the righteous ownership,i tought the german army love to mark everything
Any idea what the marking 2E means
What will be the value of a marked imperial unterhose compared to a civilian one.

                Best regards

The "2E" stands for "2.Eskadron" or the second "sqaudron" of the regiment. There were 5 squadrons per regiment in the prewar army.

A totally correct issue pair would be worth somewhere in the $100-$150 range, in my estimation. Civilian examples would not be worth much to a militaria collector. Someone with knowledge of the antique clothing market would be better suited to give you an answer.

                  Regards,
                  Chip
