Hello all,
I have a question regarding a cap I picked up of which I really have no idea what it is and what it might be worth, if anything and was hoping somebody might be able to supply some information on it. Somebody I showed it to says it was one of these caps that was worn by student organizations where they compete in fencing. The hat itself is red wool(?) with a short leather brim and 2 bands on it,one white and one black. The inside of the cap has a makers name I believe it says Paul Schwarz, the name Heidelberg and the words Am Markt in the middle. There is also the name Hans Wibel and what looks like Rv! on it and another name which I can't quite make out with the word Strassburg and it looks like the date 2/12/98 below the name. There is a third name which I can't quite make out with the word Heidelburg and what looks like the date 4 with the roman numeral for 8 and then 92. The person I showed it to pointed out a little slit in the top of the hat and they said they believed these were tossed in the air and pierced with a sword after a fencing match and they felt that that's why it might be from a student who belonged to one of these fencing organizations. His guess is as good as any I could come up with I suppose. Any information that can be supplied about this cap and any possible value would be greatly appreciated.
thanks again for any help or info.
