Help on tunic

A buddy of mind just got this tunic and he thinks its German.I think its Austrian.Any idea what it is?Rank,army,police,etc?

This is for an Oberleutnent of the Feldgendarmerie, I would bet it is pre-WWI rather than from the Republik.

Dan,

I would say interwar Bundesgendarmerie. The Gesellschaftsrock has the insignia of a Gendarmerie-Oberleutnant. The Imperial version of this tunic had the number of the Landesgendarmerie Command District on the buttons.
