    Bavarian Helmet For Identification

Can anyone help me with the identification of this helmet and the time period it was worn?

    Any help appreciated.

I think this is a firemans helmet. I have a book on these. I will check it when I get home and see if your helmet is pictured. kirby

Any help appreciated, though given the plume, I wouldn't think it a fire helmet. But I obviously don't know.

Interesting helmet, my best guess is it is a Police, Never seen a Military helmet with metal trim on both the front and back visors?

The frontplate is a Bavarian Gendarmerie plate circa 1837 to 1856

No referance to this type of helmet in the book "Die Helme der Koniglich Bayerischen Armee 1806-1918"

Thanks James. I also saw the plate referred to as Landwehr and you're also right about there being few references for these types of helmets.

I checked out my Fire Helmet book and found several helmets with the same Lion heads on the side. They are from 1840-1920. Police may have used the same lion attachments. Kirby

Lion attachments were used on a lot of different Bavarian helmets, not exclusively fire or police. Even Raupenhelms have the lion hangers.
