    Gus,

I do have one in mind and have been collecting both items and photos for just that purpose. But it will not cover any of the things that I have shown in Johann's books. So far, there have been no books on the subject.

    Thanks for the supportive comment!

If I am honest, I have not seen that many with the leather tab, and those that I have seen were early dates. The assumption that they were issued with out the tabs at the later dates comes from the surplus buckles that have shown up unissued, with out tabs, were these intended to be issued this way, or had the not been delivered to the leather works?
The next question, what were the tabs for? I can not for the life of me figure out any reason for the extra complexity in construction, other than some one convinced the German Military that they were needed, and I would suspect that it was the leather workers that would have done that.

The tab protects the uniform and prevents the gear worn on the belt from slipping while being worn. I imagine there are other reasons as well, but it certainly was not because of the leather lobby. Beside, the Germans love anything complex. Why use one part when you can use three?

        Hey Chip,
I am glad to hear that you are planning on sharing your collection, but I am an old man, I am going to die some time in the future, and I hope that you finish the book before I die, or you are going to lose a sale

That is the best explaination I have heard, the Germans did like over engineered things, the P 08 is a great example of something made so complex that it is almost useless
