I have had this for quite awhile. This is a nice unit photo from 1886 showing various uniforms at the time, IN its original frame no less.

Baden
Must be either Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 14 or 30. Note the unique placement of the Prussian and Baden cockades on the caps of the officers.

No info on the unit, BUT I did get it in Baden-Wurttemburg in the mid 1980s.

Love the frame! It looks like two are wearing the EK2 from F-P war. The big boy on the right has it appears two ribbons with one of them holding an EK2.Comment

I am not a camera guy, but I will try to take a more detailed photo - maybe someone can make out a unit.
I am more a ww2 guy, but I thought the frame was very interesting and being formerly in the atillery, an affinity to it. Think what this pic has been through without being destroyed in ww2.

Hi All,
I tried to take a few pics, but all came out blurry. BUT I took the magnifying glass and looked at the soldier in the row immediately behind the officers. If you notice his shoulder is turned in. It looks either like an 11, but more like a 14. Also the piping on the shoulderboard is braided. So, the unit is the 14th, with braided piping. Maybe someone knows. As I mentioned, I don't really collect or know too much about units from this period.
Glen2438 may have nailed it, earlier in the thread.
Also, what is intriquing is, if you look at the pic I took of the rear - you can see some white lettering behind the wood slats, center right. I was able to see the number one, but that's it. The wood pieces still have their original nails inside and I don't want to destroy the integrity.

If were a betting man, I would tend towards 1. Batterie/1. Badisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 1. The two battery commanders in 1886 according to the 1886 Rangliste and the history of F.A.R. 14 Hauptmann v. Beck or Hauptmann Runge, both holders of the 1870 EK2. The battery commander of 1./F.A.R. 30, one Hauptmann Schmidt did not hold the EK2. As I mentioned in the earlier reply, the wearing of two cockades on the band of the Mütze was a unique affectation of commissioned officers of the Baden contingent of the Prussian Army at this time.

it is just the numbering and naming convention employed by the Prussian Army. At the time Baden supplied two field artillery regiments so consequently FAR 14 was the 1st Baden and FAR 30 was the 2nd Baden field artillery regiment:
1. Badisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 14
2. Badisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 30
I may have confused you with a typo in the earlier post.
