              Hello
What was the environment where you discovered the helmet? Reminds me of a 70,s applied camo maybe even a little earlier, I was a pup back then. jmo

Please post some close ups of the area where the camo paint is scratched off to show whats under it.

At first sight it looks good, but better pics are needed as already was asked...

I like it, but I think it might be post war painted. It's familiar with US helmets painted after the war during occupation, however; is also similar to Naval Forces camo during the war. I think I see original feld-grau paint under the camo in some areas, and everything else matches. I'll wait for better pics also.

Unusual to say the least but I have seen many camo patterns that didn't fit into the "textbook" category.

It's not one I would pay out for. As Chuck hinted to, it does look like a doughboy paint job.

I thank you all for your explanations!
I am not an expert in this area and do not collect items from the First World War, but I have the pleasure of understanding these objects.
During the day I'll post the photos of the details that you asked me.
                          Again many thanks to all,Kruger.

A nice piece of camo history as Chuck says possibly GI done post war , but still a fine collectable helmet not to be confused with a modern repaint . Rob

Agreed it looks to have been done in the period. Almost impossible to tell the difference between the combat used examples and the period souvenir paint work in some cases.

I don't know if the market is now dictating this or if it's being pushed by dealers but the price gap between the two categories has closed considerably in the last two years.
