    Hi
You could use a private purchase tunic and trousers. I know its not the same as issue cloth but still looks beautiful on a mannequin. and the prices are slowly rising for a future investment. Remember, allways collect Infantry!

    Regards

      Hey floris,
He bought one of the Mantels offered in the last AGM catalogue.

      Hey William
When the Mantel arrives, we need to see what you have together

I think I will only buy a Mantel + Equipment to complete a mannequin
because my main collection consists of WW2 items. Also my budget
for a WW1 soldier is not very big so I can never afford a jacket and
          trousers (8000 euro?!!!).

Eric, I'm curious, what are the average prices for private purchase
          jackets and trousers?

            What size?
Sorry just joking. There was a time when nobody wanted them which is a shame because a lot of regular grunts bought their own.
But now I would say 2K including pants.

              Hello Gents

Some great examples of complete mannequins pictured in this thread. I sold my Imperial German collection in 2007 and started rebuilding it again last year. Even over 10 years the prices have steadily risen and -even worse- good quality pieces are even harder to come by.

The attached photo (crap quality image, but it is pre-digital....as Tony Schnurr once said, always blame the camera...) shows a half-mannequin I put together. The M1915 bluse was to RIR 216 and cost me £1000 back in 2000 (I think), and all the other kit -M1916 helmet, ammo pouches, Gew 98 rifle, etc- was assembled around the same time.

I've also included a shot of an officer's tunic from Infantry Regiment 98 -officer's tunics can provide a slightly cheaper alternative to other rank's pieces, and they do look very striking as well.

Since I've got back into Imperial German I've acquired another M1915 bluse but it cost me more than double what I paid for the one in the photo. As Eric said, collect the best pieces you can afford and the will more than retain their value.

Good luck in your collecting, all the best

              Paul.

For the sake of completeness, here's an NCO's tunic from Baden Reserve Infantry Regiment 110 -in this case an issue piece which has had the collar altered to a higher standing variety, a very common practice among senior NCOs.

I also had a M1910 tunic to an infantryman in JR 138, as well as greatcoats, gasmasks, weapons, headress like the pickelhaube and cover pictured and field kit....like a moron I sold it all, and am now painfully and expensively rebuilding...lesson learned!

                All the best

                Paul.

I missed that, but it is out of my budget.

As another member said I bought one from Advanced guard militaria. Don't dis mis Ebay for field gear it's really the best place to get many Imperial items.

                        Hello guys,

Since I started this thread I kind off lost WW1 collecting out of my sight and I
decided to stick to WW2 items. Though, last weekend I went to Ieper and visited
some musea like "Flanders Fields" and I couldn't resist anymore.

In the meantime I've bought 2 interesting items to start with my WW1 soldier,
a canteen cup and mess kit. Both are enamel and made by the same company
in the same year (BING Nürnberg, 1917). Both come from a different source but
it's so cool to have these 2 together!

Here are some pictures, let me know what you think!

Nice cup and mess kit. Although it looks like the mess kit might be missing its handle.

Correct but I've got a spare one somewhere

I'm looking to buy a Butcher 98/05 na bayonet.

Is there anything I should be aware of when buying one?

If I'm making a Prussian soldier, do I need a Prussian made bayonet
                              or doesn't it matter?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, you are much more likely to find a Prussian one than one from any other state. I would want a Prussian one if I were building a Prussian impression.
