You bought the cap? Congratulations!
PS: Such a nice cap needs a nice skull. It takes some time to find an Imperial Prussia skull, but I think it is worth the time. The skull on your cap is nice, but it is a Wehrmacht cavalry tradition skull from the Berlin hoard.Last edited by Sergeant 08; 06-12-2010, 08:10 AM.

I had the same first thought when I saw the auction photos.
A strange looking piping. But who knows?
PS: In 2000 I had bought a similiar cap. It looked like a Leibhusaren cap. The same colors! The only difference was the unusual piping. It was a cap for a guy from a Prussia Landwehrverein. That is the reason why you must be careful with such caps...Last edited by Sergeant 08; 06-12-2010, 08:02 AM.

Ok Tony, let me play devils advocate for a moment because with all due respect I unlike you are not quite ready to poo poo this cap with my limited years of WW1 headgear experience. I respect your years of experience but I think it deserves a thorough examination and as I mentioned in my earlier post that the severe tracking is indicative of a cap of 50 years plus of storage/wear
The "fuzzy" piping was exacerbated by the fact that I took Scotch packaging tape to remove lint and dust from the cap and in turn this pulls on the material to a large degree.
At any rate, how do we explain the proper and correct period materials being used??
Are you suggesting that a cap of this high quality was made to deceive?
Before you jump too quickly. would you be willing to look at the cap personally?
finally, could someone post a pick of a correct skull??

To be fair, I did not say this cap was fake. I said that fuzzy piping is not typical for an Imperial cap. They used typically a tight-weave cloth for piping. So I suggested black lighting it, and as always, judge for yourself, as you are the one who has it in your hands.
And below, and original Preußen Leib-Husarem TK on a 2LHR2 Krätzchen. If you squint hard enough, you can see the weave in the paiping cloth.
