    Greg,

If I might, a small clarification on that wonderful picture. These gentlemen are Landsturm not Landwehr. I would love to have an example of the cross on their hats as the motto should be relatively unique. An interesting piece of trivia is that all crosses were called Landwehr crosses regardless of their being worn by reservists, Landwehr, or Landsturm!

Hello An interesting photo. It does look like the same cross. The collection I got this case from has an officers spiked helmet with the Prussian eagle with a cross under the FR. I can't remember if the cross has anything on it. I couldn't find it in a Imperial spiked helmet book I picked up at the SOS. I guess that might be a pock WWI helmet. Thanks again Kirby

        Thanks Joe
I am still just trying to learn this stuff myself.

Question---Would the cross on the caps in the picture I posted
then be the same as the the one on the gorget and on Tony's
helmet or would it be different. If the "Landstrum" unit was
Prussian I would think the motto would be the same as the gorget.

        sincerely,
        Greg

Me too I learn something everyday!

The crosses are somewhat complex. The one is in the picture are big at 50 mm square. The one on the helmet is smaller probably 25 mm square. These vary and I have seen them from 15 mm all the way up to 36mm. I don't know the size of the one in the gorget.

Mottos varied a lot but generally you are correct. However, there were others who use the same motto such as Oldenburg.
