I see what you mean now Chuck! I can say that NO the notches on the corners are not uniform. One notch will be cut deeper then say the one next over being cut more shallow or the part cut off would be a smaller triangle then another. SO they are un even. This seems to say they were cut by hand does it not?

This bit of information might help. It cannot be seen in photos but the edges of the 6 prongs I'd say that five out of six have paint loss on the edges. The bare metal is not blackend or even rusty. It shines like freshly cut metal might. I should add that in the photos this does not look at all the case. What the edges have is slant much like the edge of a knife. The slant looks rusty and worn but the very edges shines. This cannot be seen with the photos provided.

I did not really think this through till now but I think subconsciously this was a bothersom issue.

      W.,

I think you have your answer. I will get back to your thread tomorrow after my Doctor's appointment. In the meantime you might want to make arrangements to return them.

What did you have to add Chuck? I was at the post office today to send them back but forgot the auction info to include so will send Monday.

            W.,

Sorry for the delayed response. I think I'll leave it like it is. Everything has been covered, and we got it right. Sorry to see that it didn't work out for you, but I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Excellent thread.

Good detective work then. Is this the first ever thread on reproduction pins vs. originals? If yes this should be a sticky.

I believe it is for the WWI German steel helmet.

Think I will start a new thread linking this thread with a title that will be easy to find in the future by those seeking info on liner pins and post it so it's up and easy to find.

                    W.,

Did you take good photos of those prongs ends to show how sloppy they were cut?

I did not target that with my camera but before I sent them back I took a bunch of shots with my camera. If any are useful I will post them when I am home.

If you look you can see this in some of the photos already up.

                        Up date

I never posted anymore photos because my camera did not take any photos worth posting.

If I am not mistaken I believe the pins in question are back on ebay. The photos are so bad I am basing this only opon the shape and bend of the pins/metal.

I plan to bid but no more then the price of good painted repros.
