    Austrian WWI Insignias ??

    Hi fellow collectors ,

Could anyone help me identifying these austrian insignias ?
Might have something to do with the Tyrol because of the eagle .

Thank you very much in advance.

    Regards

You are correct about the eagle. All of the insignia dates from the post WWI period. The diamond shaped patch uses a piece of WWI insignia in the center, a Maschinengewehrtruppen cap insignia. However, this patch was not worn during WWI. I think the same can be said for the Kragenpatten.

        Bernhard,

Interesting insignia that you have posted. The eagle patch is usually associated with the Standschutzen of the Tyrol. Also the collar tabs I would suspect. I have a friend who knows a lot about the Standschutzen. I'll send him your photo and see what he has to say about it.

        Regards,

        Gordon

          Gordon ,

          Thank you for your support.
I really would like to know what these are.

            Bernhard,

Sorry but my associate is unable to identify your insignia. We both feel it is probably post WWI but beyond that anything I would say is conjecture. Please do me a favour and post the backs of these items.

            Regards,

            Gordon

              Gordon ,

              Thank you for your help.
I will do some pics from the other side but it might take some time.

                Bernhard,

No problem with a wait on the pctures. Identifying this insignia will probably take some time. In the meantime, I'll look through some of my reference books and see if anything else turns up.

                Regards,

                Gordon

                  Hi Gordon ,

Here are some pics showing the backside of the insignias.
                  Maybe they are Heimwehr ?

Btw . I got my B-Gendarmerie book today and like it a lot.
I especially like the pics of the Ebelsberg Kaserne because they are only
five minutes away from my place and I was there when I was in the BH
                  myself.

                  regards

                  Bernhard

                    Bernhard,

Tahnks for the shots of the reverse. They certainly look professionally made which is what I wanted to see.
Glad you like the book. I ordered a copy in English and received another copy in German. I sent the company an email asking them to exchange the book but have had no response. I will send you an email later as I think I could use youur help with this problem.
I posted this insignia on another forum and haven't had any luck with identification there either. Did get a photo of a Gendarmerie from 1932 which is good for comparing collar tabs.
I don't know about the Heimwehr. Could be with this insignia set as what few pictures I have seen show them in WWI uniforms. I'll have to browes my photos of the HGM and see what I can find.

                    Regards,

                    Gordon

                      Bernhard,

Here are a couple of pictures from the HGM which my shed some light on this insignia. The first photo is of a 1918/20s period uniform that is to a person associated with a medical unit. This is shown by the diamond shape badge on the left arm of the tunic. While the insignia on your diamond shaped badge is normally associated with its wear on the cap in WWI there is no reason it could not have been worn somewhere else at other times.

                      Regards,

                      Gordon

The next two photos are of a tunic, also from the HGM and displayed in the same general vacinity as the previous tunic. This tunic has a gold eagle on the collar tabs that is similar in shape to the eagle on the ones that you posted. No dates in my photographs for these pictures.

                            I thumbed thru one of my WWI books , an excellent Italian book , I found this ;

The insignia in the diamond is associated with a machinegunner :

Here a pic of a machinegun crew wearing them as a cap emblem.
                              Interresting for me.
