Hi guys. I just got a WW1 steel helmet and looking around it I found a stamped Manf mark on the front pad leather. From what I can make out it reads "CARL WIELAND, STUTTGART". Any history on this maker would be appreciated. Thanks.

There was a leather maker in Stuttgart by the name of Carl Weinzierl. The company made a host of leather goods for the army including belts, cartridge pouches and backpack shoulder braces. So far, I can track activity from 1915 through 1917. In thirty years of keeping records, I have not run across a Wieland, but I run into previously unknown makers every year.
