    3. II. Torpedo=Division. II. 3.! Private purchased cap!

Because I'm more and more interested in the Imperial navy, I decided to buy a new cap! Some weeks ago I got an issued cap of the Unterseeboots=Abteilung, that I posted in another thread (with golden lettering!).

This is private purchased cap for soldiers of the

    3. II. Torpedo=Division. II. 3.

It looks nearly unworn from the outside (I found no moth holes!). Only a view in the cap tells you, that it was a worn cap. The cap is very dark blue, with a red piping on the top, a maker mark inside (but I can't read it) and a band with silver lettering (for technical navy soldiers = Maschinen- und Heizerpersonal).

I'm not sure, what is the meaning of the arabian 3?

The II. is the Division, but what does the 3. means ?

I read, it was the Kompanie number. Is it correct?

The photo shows a cap in wear! It is only a b/w photo, but I'm sure you noticed the red piping on the top of the cap!

A colorized photo! It is more impressive! Golden lettering for a sailor of the Torpedo Division. And you can see the red piping!

But why he wore a cap with a red piping?

He is not a torpedo or submarine soldier

                  Navy collectors in this forum?

                    Sarge,

I also collect imperial navy items. I think the piping in this last picture of the sailor from the S.M.S. Ostfriesland is a mistake by the artist that touched up the photo.

I think your answer ist the best explanation!

What do you think, is there a chance that he was first on a Torpedeo/U-boat and later on the Linenschiff SMS Helgoland (and he changed only the cap band with the lettering)?? Maybe a private cap?
