    Husaren Totenkopf?

    Hello All,

Looking for information on what this TK might actually be, and from what era - is it WWI, WWII, Modern Fantasy piece? I do not have it in my possession, but recall it measuring approximately 3 3/4" tall overall by 3 1/2" wide.

    Thank you.

    Eric

What is it in cm? What is the skull material? Silvered brass?

              Sergeant,

I will see if I can figure out the material - no brass is showing through, and I did not have magnet to see if it is a ferrous material.

The conversion to cm should be 9.5 cm x 9.0 cm.

9,5x 9 cm.....I have seen similar smaller skulls of this type. But worn on Wehrverband Wehrwolf caps after ww1. Wehrwolf members wore the Prussia type, the Brunswick type and sometimes other skulls patterns on their caps.

But in this size it is more likely a Tschako / busby skull. It looks not like a Prussia type, more than a Brunswick type (but not the normal known last style ww1).

The skull looks really intersting in my opinion! Maybe a kind of skull made for the Centenar celebrations.

I'm not sure, but on the back photo the skull edges look like aluminium????

Its a very cool skull. I love it. But it is not Imperial German. German skulls did not have a lower jaw bone until the Wehrwolf pattern Stefan mentioned and then of course the SS 1936 version.

Tony, I thought if the skull is an old German skull, it could be a Centenar skull. Such skulls were not always correctly made (details). Here are some examples!

                    Spooky Prussia skulls!

A replica of the Black Duke's cap (I think a Centenar cap from the Leipziger Voelkerschlacht Museum). Look at the skull! A lower jaw bone.

It existed different skull patterns, that were not worn by "real" soldiers. Who knows all? And not all skulls were from Germany.

                              Measurements

Here is some better information, that may help narrow down what/where this could be from:

                              weight: 16.2g/0.570oz
                              height of skull: 5cm
width of skull at widest point: 4cm
                              length of each bone: 7cm

The device is non-magnetic. It does appear to have brass showing through at the extreme edges. It "feels" heavier and more solid than if the device was stamped out of just aluminum.
