You just read my mind... actually I was looking in Kube's last auction for a Saxon Infantry Pickelhaube... there was one that tempted me
Z 2 EUR 2.500.-
As you can see the starting price was quite steep , therefore I didn't bid on it. Anyway I am more than sure that Kube sold it for more than that. I also would need a Badener Pickelhaube... but I am patient ... sooner or later there will be one for me, too!
Thank you all for your nice words! BTW, I just purchased the Saxon Helmet shown by me some replies back... As soon as I'll get it I'll post some pictures of it.
There're several dealers and auction houses where you could buy some nice pickelhaube from, but I would first get some references books, ask aroung, go to shows and inspect some original headgears.
Here are some dealers (I don't necessararly shop there, because of the high prices):
- Weitze, he has always a large selection of Imperial headgear, maybe the most knowledgable dealer on this subject.
- Rittermeister, I never bought stuff there... to pricey for me!
- sometimes also German dealers like Niemann or Baldes are offering these helmets, but they are not really "specialized" in Pickelhauben
Sometimes you can find nice helmets on German Ebay, but be very careful. I was pretty angry when I saw a beautiful (and rare) Jäger Tschako (officer) and I could bid from my working place, because the internet connection was down.
.. the kockades don't look quite right and/or matching the quality of the rest of the piece. the chin scales give me pause, but I'm not sure why?? Tony, dave, you guys out there?
