Great helmet, however I believe that both the field badge and cover are reproductions. While the cover certainly looks good the hooks for securing the lower front edge of the cover to the visor are wrong. For some reason, the makers of all the repro and fake covers I have seen will go to great lengths to reproduce markings and such but content themselves to use common modern garment hooks rather than the long flat hooks used on the originals.

      Ronr,

Your field cover, though incorrect for an officer's helmet is 100% good. The comments concerning the hooks are, in my opinion, erroneous. The markings are excellent. The material is perfect. You could sell this in a New York minute, as these are a well known issue style. These issue covers for Tschapka are quite hard to find. Consider yourself lucky to have one. Take a close look at the front of the cover you might be able to see the outline or at least some sew holes of the original cloth unit #3 which was removed according to regulation.

Well if I'm wrong I guess I'm wrong. The attached photos demonstrate, what must be my erroneous conclusions regarding attach clips/hooks. I have seen exactly the same style long flattened hooks on Tschako covers, pickel covers and lobster tail covers.

Of course I understand that the example I show may be a total fabrication...

                  GWA,

Here is a scan of the clip. It looks just like yours, or am I mistaken?

                  Best regards,

                  RonR

                    Chip,

You are right. There is still some left over threads on the front where the insignia was removed. I would have never noticed it.

Yep, they sure do. I guess I need to sit closer to the monitor.

                          GWA,

The cover you show is excellent too. Like Ronr, I see no great difference between it and what he has shown. Years ago, a group of several original Tschapka covers surfaced that were all original and all from the same unit, the 3.UR. I have one in my collection and have seen four or five of them over the years. I got my example in 1982. It too has had the cloth number removed, though no rips were made, the sew holes and the outline of the number "3" is still evident.

                                Hello Ron,

I didn't know that Tony had one too. Need I say more?
