It is a private purchase OR prussian schirmmutze for technical troops (artillery, pioneer, etc). It appears to be in good condition and I would presume that value would be between $250 and $350. Hope this helps.

Dave is correct about this cap. It's a pre-war piece and of rather low quality construction with other ranks/NCO type cockades. It looks all original so what it's worth equals how bad you want it. As for me, I'd say $175-225.

Perhaps you could ask him for photos of the top, and confirm the levels of moth damage etc? Condition for me is very critical when it comes to tunics and caps. Light mothing is to be expected of course as these are old and cloth. But what you want to avoid is heavy moth damage, so I would at least ask for a better condition description and photos. Hi Guys, I thought it might be improper for me as the seller of the cap to enter this thread, but I can hold back no longer... first of all, thank you very much for the very kind words from Tony and Tom... I have taken additional pics of the top of the hat. There is light moth damage with one small hole, which could just about be seen in one of my pics on the auction. Cheers, Torsten.

PS: Dave, I cannot believe that I got the service wrong for this cap...of course it is not Infantry....
