    It’s fake!
It’s fashioned after a GODET/ZIMMERMAN supposedly made piece, with a bunch of stamps to make it “better”

Any time I see a Zeppelin badge or Tank badge, I automatically assume it's fake BEFORE I see a picture of it. They are both rare and extremely expensive badges. This one is no exception

I too would say it was a reproduction , interesting though ,the badge looks to be a hollow two piece with vent hole behind hinge , a lot of trouble to go to for a fake . I i do not agree that it looks like a Godet piece , nothing like it really . Both badge and crown are separately marked 800 and it seems as though the crown has been separately applied ,again labour intensive . Obviously this badge type has an army counterpart ,less crown .

Ferg, what’s more than obvious are the FAKE stamps, 800 and the asterisk are ugly fake looking, not to mention that it’s a real “softie”, with ugly GODET like hinge!
With badges of this magnitude, even 1 red flag should be enough to stop the whole wagon for a while, not to mention that here it’s RED HOT all over

            Original to me.

            Too well made.

            Where are the others?

I wasn’t disputing the originality of it , albeit dubious , just the workmanship of its construction and the features not often seen in clumsy fakes. The 800 stamp looks neat enough to me but I thought the asterisk was an Austrian symbol for base metal so a contradiction perhaps there. Still can’t see any similarity to the Godet hardware in any shape or form. Have compared with my Godet zeppelin badges and not even close !

Hi Ferg, I’m sorry, perhaps, I wasn’t clear enough, you won’t find any similarity in the reverse set up of the thread starter badge to your WWI GODET zeppelin badge/s. That’s why I said “GODET/ZIMMERMANN” fake set up in my first post. I’d assume you know that these 2 companies at some point 20s30s40s whatever, started to use the same or pretty close hardware, don’t want to go into too much detail there.
Anyway, at some point (POSSIBLY post WWI) the GODET hardware starts to look more like ZIMMERMANN, check the picture. I put the fake set up first in the comparison line. So, again, this set up reminds of GODET\ZIMMERMAN, but is nowhere close to a real one.
I Don’t know if the fakers were intentionally targeting later period of production or it was simply due to not enough knowledge on the subject.
Don’t know if you noticed , but there is a fake “2” stamp thrown in there as well, supposedly pointing towards Juncker (late 30s, early 40s)!
So now, to me at least, this badge is an official “freak show”, nevertheless it’s still FAKE of course!

I'm not sold on this one either but someone sure took some time and skill making it. Where did you find it?

Thanks for all the replies. I found it at a german flea market, but did not buy it. I also have some concerns about the authenticity of this peace. I heard, that this is an really hard subject on this kind of badges.

Lubo I have to contradict you in this particular case. Of course the hinge-pin combination is similar to piece made by Godet but not for the Airship badges.
Badges attributed to Godet have a different design and don't have this hinge-pin combination.
This fake don't try to mimic the know Godet design only use this feature. I know this fakes with different hinge-pin combination. In mho we can't speak of a Godet copy in this case.

                      Kind regards
                      Alex

Thank you ,Alex , for showing a badge that displays the main GODET - characteristics:
                        - The flying strands of the upper tie
                        - and the striated texture of the zeps body

Nothing to be compared with the threadstarters specimen...

Considering the rarity of this badge, the chances to run into a fake are much higher than to unveil an - up to now - unknown variety.

                        Regards
                        Hagrid

How does Godet get into the act?

Delano never even said the word "Godet."

In trying to dispute the originality or the lack thereof of his badge, the entire thread has gone down a different path that is irrelevant in my opinion.

It is very informative to have a Godet Zep badge displayed, it looks nothing like the example Delano is requesting information about.

So, what does the Godet Zep prove?
