Here is my AWS.

Very nice cross in a gorgeous condition, still frosty
If I am not mistaken its a so called, AWS 1st. core type and mine a AWS 3rd core type! Yours is an earlier cross than mine, I think?

You're right. The first type of core was manufactured during the First world war. It crosses with the first type of core I have seen more than once with the stamp of the silver sample. The cross with the third type of core I see for the first time with the stamp of the silver sample.

Very nice to hear
There is still a lot to discover and to learn about the 1914 crosses. As you can see in this thread. I am also learning almost every day.

Maybe one day the 1914 crosses were examined (also in Books) just like the 1939 crosses ..... who knows?

That is one of Trevor's pictures and one that I use to identify
the AWS cores also.

In my opinion core 1 was used from the beginning of WWI till some time during the war. Core 3 replaced it and was used till AWS stopped making EKs (some time before 1939). Core 2 was used simultaneously with core 3, probably in the interwar years, but on budget versions of the cross; it is usually non-magnetic and found in alloy (non-silver) frames. There are some exceptions, but that is my sense of the timeline.
