    PLMs- maker mark

Were all Pour Le Merites maker marked as well as silver "938" marked? Are those with just the "938" stamp considered post war pieces? Detlev had a piece on his site last week marked only "938" with no "W" or "FR". Likewise, on herman historica, there is a PLM grouping with provenance, however the cross is silver content only marked "938". Anyone know? Thanks!

No thoughts on this one from anyone?

Well, the 938 mark was really only used before 1918 - by law.

The missing manufacturers mark....maybe just forgotten?

        Did anyone notice....

... that the letters were connected on that PLM?

Thanks Andreas! So the presence of the 938 mark in the absence of the the maker mark is not an indication of a post war production piece? Is there evidence of wartime crosses marked only with "938" and no maker mark? Thanks.

Rick- Which cross are you referring to? The one on herman historica or the one on Detlev's site from a week ago?

Tom.I did not see the PLM on Detlevs site last week and if the HH one is being referred to it is almost impossible to tell from the catalogue photo if the letters are linked as the PLM has lost a lot of enamel in that area...indeed I feel it would only rate a 5 out of 10 for condition.RKs can have a "salty" (what a stupid word) condition rating...indeed I believe that it can add character to an RK...but not for a PLM where major enamel damage must lower the value.Mind you this grouping does have the PLM award document so that would balence out the low quality of the actual award.Regarding the manufacturers marking...on the three examples I have had the opportunity to handle all were by Wagner and whilst the silver 938 was quite clearly stamped the "W" was not as clear and to me looked as it was engraved very lightly and certainly not stamped into the edge.In one PLM it had almost dissappeared.
