WWI German Pilot's Badge

I just bought an old collection of military items from the son of a deceased collector. Many items are original and some are fakes or reproductions. Among the collection is this World War I German pilot's badge. It's marked "800" two times on the reverse and once on the pin. I have no experience with WWI German badges and presume this is a copy. Looking forward to your opinions.

It's one piece and it's a hollow back.

How many times do you need to stamp "800" to make you think it's real? Sorry, that was a bit acerbic.


The short answer....The poor details lend to my opinion that this is not a period badge.

To me it looks like the cast (see the numerous flaws, esp. on the crown shields) copy of a later (see the die-flaw) squarepunch-badge. No wheep-holes like an original would have and the surplus of 800 punches...I would pass on this one.
(The pin and the hingewell-style is correct, though...)
