    Incredible cased EK1

Just got this really unique and awesome private purchase set- all appears to be between the wars private purchase.

The case I have never seen the like of- the EK on the lid is heat embossed into the leatherette and then silver painted to the frame. The base and lid have a raised padded cushion covered in silk- no recess.

The cross appears to be a very rare type with the screw disc having 2 raised balls. All pieces are 800 stamped and the cross is additionally stamped 4 and the screw disc 2.

The only other example I could find posted was one that is marked 3 along with the 800 stamps shown here

    Hope you enjoy it!

Personally, I don´t like the misalignment of frame halves. Imo it is far behind the tolerance of period quality control.

Even more strange thing is, that while the reverse half is clearly misaligned on reverse pic, it fits on obverse pic. If we consider the possibility of Friday afternoon misalignment, then we should see this effect - frame seen misaligned on left side of reverse pic should result in misalignment seen on right side of obverse picture. But not here. Which leads me to think the front and back halves have different shape. That is impossible on original cross as the outer cut of front and back halves were done with the same tool.

Can we see some side pictures of soldering?

Some displacement of the frame halves will occur during the vaulting process. I think also the illusion of misalignment seen in the images above is enhanced by the shadows from the lighting. Beautiful set.
