    SOS Bar and EK1

Here is a REALLY interesting grouping of a marked Juncker EK1 with Spange and what is even more interesting is the bar that is in this wooden case with it. I just can not figure this guy out!

    Enjoy,
    Marc

It isn't mine! But how did he get this combination of awards? Hmm...

        Hi Marc,

IMO. Stay away from the EK/spange combo. REMEMBER the song that Stogieman always sings--"Muffin man, Muffin man,do you Know the muffin man."

I have always wanted a combo like this but NOT this one.

          Greg,
Thanks - I did pass on it. But I am still scratching my head at his combination of awards...

100% with Greg on this one: EK1 is bad news.

              Hi Marc,

nothing wrong with that bar. As far as i know, it was allowed to go on wearing the Albrecht-cross without swords, when someone got the same class WITH swords. Was it that, what you wondered about?

              best,
              Gerd

Gerd - exactly! Thanks - I did not know that was allowed. Nice bar, too bad it is mated with the EK1.

                  Dear Marc,

I agree with the otehrs. I ahve never seen a WWI Junkers marked cross (esp like that). Plus the coke bottle pin is pretty ugly.

                    some information on this combination...

Every German state allowed his citizen to wear multiple decorations of the same order based on its own regulatory. A brave Prussian officer would have had to apply to the orders chancellery in order to keep wearing the civil order decoration next to the one with swords.<O</O

The Saxons were a bit more relaxed about this. Yet, if the bearer had been awarded the civil decoration before he had gotten the same class for bravery, he would have been wearing a knight 1st class with swords on the ring instead of those two. Would he have received one for civil merit (very unlikely) after the same grade for bravery this combination would have been OK.<O</O

The Saxons changed this law November 17, 1906. From then on (so in case of this medal bar) swords on ring were only worn if the bearer was promoted from a bravery/war decoration (swords) into a higher class for civil merit. <O</O

Fact is that this combination is OK. This also explains why most Saxon medal bars from the WWI timeframe have a high percentage of double Albert Order or Civil Merit Order decorations.
