    Schwarzburg Bar

I just grabbed this unusual bar for next to nothing at a local auction, it would appear to be a very unusual combination as Schwarzburg medals are rarely seen mounted. Obviously missing an EK2 and I assume 1914, also Centenar medal and Landwehr medal??

Would this combination be traceable to an owner?

No picture of reverse currently but will post when i have it in hand, hope you like it anyway!

Hi, I do not think this will be traceable due to the 'low' and fairly generic awards on it. It is clear the original owner was a resident/came from the Fuertentum Schwarzburg-Rudolfstad a small entity but with still about 100 thousand inhabitants. The Schw. medals are a Fuerstlich Schwarzburgisches Ehrenkreuz 4th class with swords (a 500 usd award) and a silver honour medal (a 100 usd award). I expect the owner was an older NCO who also had a very long, 40 year, career as a civil servant. So not only a very cool bar but if you picked it up for next to nothing you got a very nice deal. Cheers, W

PS: a Prussian Landwehr medal makes sense.

You picked this bar up for "next to nothing "?!!

I fully agree with kaiserwilhelm2. This is the uncommon Schwarzburg cross 4th class with the Schwarzburg Ehrenmedal in silver. Both are rare mounted and even more rare together. I know of only one other instance of a Schwarzburg Cross 4C and Schwarzburg Ehrenmedal on one bar -and I own it. .

This medal bar begs to be restored. And they are easy medals to find. I hope you can restore it.

Luckily, only the more common awards were removed from the bar.

Can you show more photos? Especially the reverse.

        Great pick up!

          Wonderful bar!
As others already said, extremly lucky that only common and cheap medals were removed. Easy to get them, a piece of silk thread and the bar will be back to it's full glory!

Oh man, that's sweet. Please post when you restore it! I don't think I'm speaking for just myself when I say I can't wait to see it complete again.

At auctions anything is possible - items sometimes sell for way way too much and at other times you can get things dirt cheap because there is no or little interest from the competition.
