Real or fake? Kaiserliche Marine insignia

Hey all. Just recently bought this on eBay on an impulse. I think it may be coastal artillery but I really have no idea. So, did I screw up?

I collect imperial navy insignia and I have never seen anything like this. I have also not seen it in any of the available reference material on the subject.

It looks like the embroidery of the chevron is incomplete. Pieces of the frame or underlay can be seen. The rest of it is mystery. I have fotos of ww1 marine artillery uniforms and that badge does not appear in any of them. Could it be Weimar Republic navy? I just checked a book on German naval uniforms and the section on land based naval artillery does not have an anchor nor an iron cross on it. The book does not include Weimar uniforms. The badge looks uncomfortably new and unfaded, but that could just be the foto.

I understand that the Iron Cross like item in the pic suggests German, but I get an English feeling about this badge.

British use a different "bomb" design, but I do see what you mean. It's similar to the ww2 kriegesmarine except the anchor and the EK aren't included. Imperial is pretty close to the ww2 model. Unless it's unique to a ship as an honour, or a gunnery award I find it suspect. Maybe it's a prototype of some sort, or a fantasy piece for someone who really wants the badge to look more German. The reason I say that is that is because some trade badges do appear on an anchor on NCOs' epaulettes. They are usually gilt, hollow backed metal, without the chevrons belowand pinned between the lace/ braid that edges the epaulettes. And no EK on it. It must be late because I can't get off the fence as to it's authenticity.
