I don't have a suitable picture of the hallmark in question to provide, but all you have to do is go through the Manion's catalogs from the 90s. In the various sections (including repro) you can easily find a matching example. The descriptions usually stated that these crosses were made in England (??) in the 60s, but my guess is that they were also made well beyond that time frame. Just take a look at the residue on the catch from Doug's example. -pretty sloppy. Not even an early 3rd Reich finisher would have found this acceptable. As far as the difference in 'G' designs-- well, it's pretty easy to get ahold of a jeweler's chop.

    Hey, Andreas- WELCOME!

This might explain the quality of the initial listed Iron Cross.

I have not found out yet how to upload images, but email me @ andreas@medalnet.net for a image of the "G" marking on an Albert Order.
Thanks Andreas, I'll contact you. You may be on to something. The piece strikes me as a '40-s or '50's piece. There is a line of "muffin crown" 1914 fakes which were made in the UK which a G on the pin, but this is not one of them. It looks like an original "budget" piece to me. But...we'll keep an open mind.

Andreas sent me a scan of a "G" from a Glaser & Son medal. It does not matvh the G on my mystery EK1, but it DOES match the G exactly on the piece most people identify as Godet (my second posted cross above). It could very well be that the 1914 EK1's marked only with a G are indeed made by Glaser and Sohn. (Again, I'm referring to the 2nd of my crosses posted here). The quality of my second cross is very "average", where one would think Godet would put out one of the highest quality cores around.

I just found an EK2 on auction which appears to be of the same quality as my first posted cross above. Note the crowns are similar and the frame quality is very so-so. Mates? or both repros? Maybe this raises more questions than answers?

We thrashed around the 'G' versus 'Godet.Berlin' marked pieces in this thread here... 1914 EK1 marked 'G' a while back.

The outcome was interesting - especially given the match in Core detail of the abbreviated G and fully marked Godet pieces.

And yes, WELCOME Andreas. Nice to have your knowledge among us.
