    IMPERIAL SKY... by Previtera

I have two of the three books now thought of as the best references on WW1 aviation badges. (Pandis and Carsten Baldes) I haven't purchased the book by Previtera yet.

I want to but buy it but wonder if it offers anything not in the other two. It looks wonderful and I've heard good things.

Can some offer opinion of the best reference of the three books

Wouldn't know about Pandis volume. But both Previtera's and Baldes' aviation books are nothing but awesome. Imperial Sky has great detailed pictures and tells you what to look for in original badges. Plus historic context. Baldes volume has recipient lists, plus many variations to each type of aviation badge. I have both and do not regret them.

I would recommend all three books as they contribute different (to some degree) information to the subject and picture different examples. For example some discuss fakes more than others and many other different aspects.

I do not agree with some of the assertions in some of the books nor agree to the originality of all of the examples in all of the books, but they all are essential to anyone serious about these Aviation badges.

You canĀ“t put it better than Phild did !
Although I prefer Stephen Previteras tome a notch: Stephen explains better with more detail-pictures...

I reviewed both of Previteras books and can say that the quality of the pictures are the highest. That gives you the opportunity to determine the good ones. You will not be able to do with pictures from the other books, even there are 10 pictures of simmilar badges.

But for me more important are the backgroud informations and the connetion to the former owner of this badges, where possible. I love to see a face behind the badge and read the history of the men who worn this bages.
Something that are not for interest for many collectors but what makes the difference between a "Bilderbuch" and a "Fachbuch". It tells history not pictured only things.
Something that I missed at the other books, although they had many potential when I see all the attributed badges.

"Aber ueber Geschmack laesst sich streiten" would we say here.

          Kind regards
          Alex

Very nice book with great detail but seems to be missing many examples that should be discussed.
I see what others have stated are true, one can't rely on only one book on Flight Badges. The Carsten Baldes is wonderful but the Previtera book has amazing photos. Pandas too is great.
