It is from Hannover and the rim is marked to the awardee C.F.V.D. WENSE. The C could be a G. Notice the retaining bar on the back. It is hugh! I believe this bar was in the v. der Wense family, but I can id which member. Any help?

      Nice bar

#4 looks to be the Hannover General Decoration for Combatants.

Award specifics are not known to me.

      Hope it helps.

Last one is the commemorative medal of the battle of Langensalza 1866, which Hannover actually WON against the Prussians, but to no effect. Hannover had to surrender a few days later and was wiped off the map.

          Wense

          Paul,

I found three von der Wense in the 1866 Hannoverian Rangliste. Two were retired after that campaign which leaves Premier-Lieutenant F. von der Wense of the Leib-Regiment. He transferred to Prussian Infantry Regiment Nr. 42. He is shown as an Hauptmann and company commander of 3./42 in 1872. He retired as a Major (before 1891) and was still alive and living in Hannover in 1901.

          Regards
          Glenn

All veterans (of 1870/71, in this case) got the Centennial.

First time poster. I know this thread is old. Once in a while I Google my family's name to see what pops up. I am a (military) history buff.

I can look him up, should be to find who it is. I have the noble family book. I can look it up.

P.S. My is Gero von der Wense

                I live outside philly, PA
