    Century Old Christmas Gift

    Given to tropps in the II. Battalion of the 417th Infantry Regiment while in training in March 1917 the regiment first went into the field.

    Very nice! First one I have seen with such an inscription and I have no question that this one is period done.

    I know nothing if this Regt, but in general this period was the big push to train and equip many infantry units into assault units for the Spring 1917 offensive.

            no pun intended. My father use to sing a song that he said they sang, especially on Sundays while fighting in the war. It was called;

            "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition"

            Excellent fighting knife in more ways than one. I also like that hard to get, later war web belt loop
