    Ron,
    This does not have the typical one piece suspension. Is the small ring soldered to what looks like a rectangular boss on the medal? Can we see a shot from the top? If it is as I describe then I think this is a later piece made as a replacement.

      Hi Ron,

      I agree with Mr. Beery. This is a medalbar piece. They made them like this because the original suspension, which is similar to the Öse of a 1939 Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, doesn't lend itself to mounting. I've seen plenty of this type, both on and off medalbars.

      For reference (this is an early one with filed suspension but the idea is basically the same):
