        Nice

Great score. I'm happy for you but a little jealous that you found this jewel somewhere and I didn't!!!

Thank you Guys for all of the positive feedback. That takes away a lot of my buyer's remorse.

I know that a lot of you guys avoid ebay but I have to say that most of my better
pieces came off ebay. This is one of them as well as my 1813.

Kay, Thanks for the additional information.
The catch has obviously been repaired. The pin looks ok IMO. What looks like
a repair under the right side of the hinge barrel is a puddle of varnish. I believe
the varnish was applied by a collector at some point in it's life. it is applied
very unevenly. with puddles and runs.--- I remember a discussion some years
ago about old collections where items were coated with varnish.

          Trevor,
Thanks. I am unsure about removing the varnish. I do not care for the yellow
appearance hoever I do not want to do anything that might remove any of
the patina and especially I do not want to harm the blackening on the core.

Very nice collectible. They don't get any better than that in my opinion.

Amazing piece of history! Leave it as is, unless you feel it is post war and can be removed without damaging it.
