Mönchengladbach?

Does anyone have any idea what Prussian Infantry Regiment used
men from Mönchengladbach (hometown of Heinrichs Himler), Hardt, Reydt?
A friend is trying to trace his inlaws' records & hit a dead end.

Münchengladbach

Tom,

Heinrich Himmler was born in München, the capital of Bavaria and not Münchengladbach which is in Northwestern Germany. Münchengladbach was in the VIII Army Corps district and more specifically the area of the 15th Infantry Division. That narrows the field to 4 infantry regiments:

Infanterie-Regiment von Lützow (1.Rhein.) Nr.25
5. Rhein. Infanterie-Regiment Nr.65
9. Rhein. Infanterie-Regiment Nr.160
10. Rhein. Infanterie-Regiment Nr.161

If I were to hazard a guess I would pick Nr. 25 (Aachen) or 65 (Köln).

Hello Munich,

I see that you live in Germany, so you must be right about the spelling, but I owned a Nazi party flag several years ago with a black patch in the upper left corner for the city of MÜnchengladbach (as Glenn spelled it). Is it possible we are talking about two different towns? Münchengladbach AND Mönchengladbach?

Even this thread is very old now, I must tell you that you are not talking about two different citys.

Mönchengladbach was called in the past Münchengladbach.

Same as Krefeld was called once Crefeld.

First the towns name was just Gladbach (thats the name of a very small river that is there). But because there is another city named Bergisch Gladbach it was intodruced to say München-Gladbach (to make it easier to differ).

In 1950 it was changed to Mönchengladbach to show a clear difference to the city of München (Munic).


Its one an the same city.
