Really weird 1870 EK1 fake
Picked this up on ebay (of course 
). It was sold as a fake and was so strange that I decided to bite. I got it in the mail over the weekend and the oddness just keeps getting odder. It appeared to be very, very tarnished silver with an odd crown and an old style 8-loop back. Something else bothered me, the patina did not look quite right for silver so I pollished an inconspicuous area and was shocked to discover that it was copper! Probably had a bad silver plate that had totally oxidized as I can still see traces of plating. The frame is very crisp and looks just like my original WW1 EK's but even sharper. Anyone ever seen anything like this? I did not pay much for it so I am not upset, the entertainment value I am getting out of the whole thing is worth it so far.
