Medal of the Order of the Red Eagle - Assistance Needed

    Hello,

Is this Medal of the Order of the Red Eagle the 4th class version for junior grade officers? I have only seen this medal with a gilt finish so the silver is a bit confusing or is it just simply the medal retains none of its original finish?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

What is on the reverse (FWIV or W)?

You have a pre-1908 version but without a reverse photo it's not possible to say exactly which type.

I'm not sure with the old German script.

For the record, here is what the reverse of the first type looks like -

So it safe to assume that mine is a Type II with a "W"

                Hi John,

                Yes, yours is a Type 2 (1871-1908).

                Very nice silver piece.
                Best regards,
