    Pilot badge

I'm new to WW1-era badges and medals, so I am not well-educated on the fine points of good vs. fake, makers, and when it may have been manufactured.

This badge has wear to the frosted finish and detail on the high points. Not magnetic, and no tombak-type material shows through on the worn high points (maybe nickel silver?). Bends in pin indicate this was actually worn. Thanks for taking a look.

Issued pilots badge from the C.E. Juncker firm.

        Looks good.

Thanks very much for the information and observations. Based on examination of badges in other posts, I thought this may be a Juncker product.

Did they knock the cross off the top when the Kaiser abdicated in 1918 ?

Removing the cross might have been done by the awardee, in protest like some who display their EKII's with the reverse being displayed. My uboat vet friend Edgar has mentioned how he and others were very upset by the Kaiser abdicating

I've seen one example where the whole crown was removed. (I can't remember where) Just the bottom lip remaining. In that instance, as well as the one above, it seems clear to me it is for someone who is still using the badge as an active pilot after the war.
