This variant of the "Spanish Fake" has been posting pretty much weekly on eBay (sure many of you have seen it). The quality is looking to be at a level which would make a very attractive "filler," now, with the legs cut free, etc.:
"Market value" on eBay seems to have pretty much settled at $510--not bad money when the production run isn't too costly in labor and materials, but given the finish work + oaks copy + ribbon, probably not what they were wanting.
Interesting thing will be, does this "flood" of refined "Spanish Fakes" succeed in damaging the future "credibility" of the "Spanish Fake"...as a fake? (Rather leaving it as a nice copy to be had for a fair amount of money, but no longer likely to trick many into thinking it genuine?) Unlike EKs, for instance, the distinctive appearance of this type makes it relatively easy to spot, even for the common eBay surfer. A little good-old-fashioned short-term money may be the undoing of a fair amount of careful faking. No tears lost, for sure, but kind of ironic.
