    Trench Art Crucifix

    Greetings All,

Posting some photos of a trench art crucifix obtained this past year. I searched the forum but didn't find any threads on these. My understanding is that they were produced en masse as keepsake mementos after the war. I've seen a number of examples bearing references to Ypres, where they were presumably sold to tourists and pilgrims. This is the first one I've come across featuring a Gott Mit Uns button.

Curious if anyone else collects these, and if there is additional information available about the origins of who produced them.

    Best Regards

Cool piece of trench art.... Amazing what can be made from spent shell casings.

            Hello Didier,

Thank you for the link. Some really interesting items displayed on this web site! The miniature table and chair with the Kruge all made from shell casings is fantastic.

I have a few more mementos of this sort, but the crucifix has always struck me as particularly fascinating. The example they show in this site is the more commonly seen type, without the Got Mit Uns button.

            All best

              danke

Thanks also to Ron P and pzrwest for the comments. I'm fascinated by this piece and curious to learn more about when and where it might have been produced.

                More trench art

Here is another interesting trench art piece from my collection; a small art nouveau/jugendstil style tray that features the prussian crown and motto motif. The small banner reads 'Sir De France'.

IMHO, more than "Sir de France" is "Souvenir de France", in abbreviated form.
                  Thanks for showing.

Excellent, yes, thanks for the clarification!

Interesting to see these souvenirs from france featuring to the Gott mit uns button. Intended as victory mementos? Does anyone have more information about where they might have been produced?
