Hi Brian,
If it's 3-piece and magnetic then I'd suggest the cross is a nice early lugged cast-iron cored example that has at some stage lost it's small ribbon loop ring. At some point a hole has been drilled and new/incorrect small/large rings added.

thanks so much for the help. The core iron seems very crude so that was my question with it, mainly. Also the fit of the letters in the frame seemed wonky.
Should I just leave it as-is? Or remove the incorrect rings and leave it apart?
