    EK 2nd Class for Review

    Hi,

I would like to know if this is an original Iron Cross 2nd Class. It is an all brass 2 part construction made cross welded together with a seam running all around the outside edge. The cross measures 43mm by 43 mm. I am thanking you all in advance and hope to hear from some of you very soon.

    Regards, Michel

    Michel ,,
the seam around the cross is in my opinion not a solder seam ..
but a seam of two pressing halves coming together wile pressing this item ,

surely it looks to me like a one peace cross ,,

these types of crosses are not related family of what I call original or rewarded crosses ...

other collectors would like to have them in they're collections as I am sure they disagree with me ..

but I will never advice anyone to buy such crosses,,or see them as rewarded or original ...

    sorry ,,,regards kay

      Hi Kay,

What is the line I see all around the trim, is in it the welding line holding the 2 pieces together?

      Regards, Michel

If the seam you are talking about had been a soldered seam it would appear as a thin dark line. The pics above are three pics of the same seam, but looks like grinding marks where a cast or stamped mold line was removed. In my opinion and this EKII isn't for me

In my opinion your cross is a two-piece painted brass (just as you said) copy or replica, probably period, perhaps for theatrical use or maybe for patriotic display.

Despite what's claimed above, I don't know anyone who considers these original award pieces.

I think it's a neat piece no matter when precisely it was made.
          Best regards,

Not what I would expect to see for an awarded cross.
