Obviously not a wealthy veteran but a simple man proud of his service and made do with what he had

Sorry Kay but dirty, beaten, torn and ripped does not make a bar real. I think most of the loose medals you see are from bars like this.

Some bars were made and seldom worn, or not worn at all, ie. for a funeral pillow. Others have been cherished and stored well and only come to light when the family finds them clearing out the family members things after death.

                  Hy Don

                  yes so the story's go's . (and i believed it to 1 time )
100 years of mint ribbon history so to speak .
no UV light ,dust ,moist ,wars , that all is ok

but I think its smarter to look for worn ribbons ,,especially the large bars
grand officers or ordinary soldier ,,,
those battered with UV light ,dust ,moist, wars .

reason for that is I seen to much +-100 year old schützen orden in my collection and on my own hunting .
strange how time wears the ribbon of in 100 year , even deserted in a draw .
seems only to count fore schützen rewards and ribbon's
                  Don ,,

in the end its everybody's own likings and believes ,,so it wont matter .
until in 500 years they are still in mint condition

but we wont know what story is made fore that occasion

                  regards kay
