    Opinions needed on this knife

I don't know if I am posting this in the correct forum, but to me it seems the most appropriate.
I have recently come across this knife which I would be grateful for any information about, since I do not really know what it is.
    I attach some pics.
    Thanks,
    Peter.

Very interesting piece, I've never seen one like it. No doublt private purchase, what is the handle material?

                      Hi Reichsword,
It seems to be an amber-like material, or a type of resin.

                            Thanks Gerrdan,
Any idea when they produced this kind of knife?
                            Thanks,

The F. Herder trademark with the spade (Pikas) was their pre-war commercial trademark. It's not a hirschfanger or hunting knife. The blade is not long or stout enough to be used for the coup de grace on fallen game animals. It looks to mimic a North African Arab knife popular at the time. The cracked resin parts on the handle look to be early plastic or Trolon. Apparently stored in a hot enviroment that caused the cracks. You will see this effect occasionsly on Heer and Luft dagger grips improperly stored.

Interesting commercial knife. How long is the blade?

                              Hope this helps.
