First the Pilots badge is likely a PP ...and in the 800 ballpark of silver , appears repainted on the front....as for the observers , the center has obviously been either replaced ,or repaired, but regardless, .. nothing one cannot live with , so I rate them in value less than examples just left alone, but I think they are still ok . Observers is NOT silver....IMO. (someone else will tell you what that's made of)

                Better pics coming

Juoneen, thanks for the comments! I'll try to take better pics of the Pilot's Badge Obverse for the posting. I see what you mean about it looking "repainted" from the pictures, but in hand it seems completely untouched. PP is private purchase? Lastly, I see what you mean on the Observer's badge ... Typically the enameled front piece would be attached by small prongs, but this one appears soldered, probably due to prong breakage.

Hi, pilot badge is from the same die as the Juncker outlet badges. Probably not silver as it would be marked as such. These badges are assumed to be Juncker make although never marked. They carry a different /cheaper form of pin set up which would suggest that they were cheaper alternatives to the silver variants. I have never encountered one of these that was maker marked or silver . They are nearly always nickel silver or tombak but I am sure variations in base metal do exist but not seen in silver. The front ,to my mind ,has not been re-painted but is just oxidisation or patination, this effect is seen quite often ,looks like a paint over but is not. The observer is a post war example probably 30's going by the enamel style or even a repair job with a later centre device added . Ferg

Looking again at the observer badge it could be war time with a later repair/replacement to the centre device. Hard to say for sure as this badge/maker was producing war time and post war. The right hand crown arch has a flaw in later pieces ( pilot and observer, like Juncker were fashioned from the same die) that gets worse over time, this one has none which would indicate that it is an early piece before the fault developed . IMO ,early piece with post war repair. Ferg
