    Cased 1914 EK2 w/Austrian fold - price check

I have had this cased 1914 EK2 with Austrian fold in my collection for awhile. It case is made of a very heavy cardboard and is covered in a red leather type material. The inside tray is green and has a recess for the EK2 and Austrian fold ribbon. I have seen many cases for the 1914 EK2, but very, very rarely have I seen one for the EK2 and Austrain fold! The cross is unmarked and in outstanding condition. The picture shows the inside and botton. The top is plain. I am considering selling it, but I would like to get a price check. What do you guys think?

    Dear Paul,

As a start point I would say "average" cased/boxed WWI Iron Cross 2nd classes seem to be bringing anywhere between $275 - $400 depending on the condition of the case and award and, of course, depending on who the dealer is. Additionally, although they are not seen that frequently, there does not seem to be that much of a price premium for an IC with a trifold ribbon over a regular IC. But given the 2 together I would say you have quite a rarity. I think I have seen maybe 1 other cased trifld for sale in quite sometime (years ago). I would think that you could ask for a small premium over what a nice cased IC 2nd class would go for ($450/$475). I don't think that would be an unreasonable price (just my opinion). Of course a serious Iron Cross collector might be willing to pay alot more for this piece. Hope this is of some assitance.

PM me if you decide to sell this piece.

      Well...

Dealers might ask/want that, but my experience has been cased EK2's in the $200-$250.00 range. Yes, the original trifold is desirable, but not that kind of premium IMO. If the case was fancier, i'd think you could push it into the $300-350 range.
