Showing here a WWI hardshell, blackened leather holster for a P08. The maker's name appears on the front just left of the pull strap knot: "J.G. Raum / G.m.b.H. / Nuernberg". The small pouch for the take-down tool is missing.
From research on this Forum I have learned that "all (new) leather items were ordered to be blackened in September of 1915." (per Chip M. posting 03-01-2012). Most of the pull strap inside the holster is brown. Any other stampings which may have been on the underside of the top flap are now indistinguishable. The stitching for the pull strap on the reverse side is contiguous with that for the left belt loop, which is correct.
As well, per Nick Komiya in his recent thread "P08 Holster Construction WWI vs. WWII (see: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...Wi+P08+holster ) the magazine pouch is correctly not integral to the leather back panel as with WWII P08 holsters.
What I find interesting - and which I have not seen before - is that the magazine pouch is a double one designed to accommodate two spare magazines. I am not sure if this is an unusual or seldom-seen feature and would appreciate any comments from members in the know about this subject.
