And you see that could be the bar of a Lt. Gen. because it represents the same grouping as my great grandfather's who retired shortly before WWI.

And here's the bar before the late 90's fluff and stuff add-ons. What a real 1870 vet wore proudly before the new bar replaced this well worn example.

                    Hey Brian,

The thing about your great grandaddy..... was he had all the little stuff on his bar... as he had all the 'high end' stuff around his neck.....

What rank do you think he was ... when he wore this bar ?

                    Cheers
                    Mark

He wore this bar until the 1890's when he wore the fluff fluff bar and all the chest crosses and RAO w/oaks neck cross. So he literally did not add a single medal to his bar from the 1870 war until he was the Lt. Gen. in the photo in the other thread. He ended the Franco Prussian War as a Hauptmann.

But, the fluff fluff bar is the typical bar post 90's for these guys and he wore one also.

He wanted to name my grandmother after one of his battles.

Did he have a bar with lower ranks of the orders (i.e. RAO 4th or Crown 4th) ?

Which battle for Grandma ..... 'Metz' ?

Interesting that there was no other bar..... So I'm to assume that he went straight to the commander's grade orders ????

Do you know what his ranks were over the years ... and when he retired ??
