Here are scans of an un-marked EKII. Can anyone identify maker of this cross? Also how does one tell the difference between a cast core and the two piece die struck cores? Thank you in advance.... Harold

Hard to tell from these pics, a bit too dark for me.
Go here to database, open the makers and compare with your cross in hand. Keep in mind this base is not all-inclusive and same core was used with different makers sometimes.

The difference between cast and stamped core is a bit hard to describe, but cast core is not that smooth as stamped. There are small surface imperfections, like very small scratches, holes and the surface look more "sandy" than stamped. -
After going through the EK data base I think I found a matching cross to my cross, maker We link;

Yes, it can be both We or WG, these two are hard to distinguish... I don't know if these are two different makers or the same makers with two markings.
I have the same problem - can't decide which one is mine.

After looking closely at your pics, I'm more into WG, based on the shape of obverse crown, but the details are very close.
Whatever it is, you got another very nice cross!
Guys are right. EK2 variants are addiction.

I measured my cross and the dimensions are spot on to the WG cross. Also I noticed the cross on the top of the crown also slants to the right and the base of the "3" matches the WG cross. So I think I will call it a WG cross. Thank you all for all the help Identifying this cross. Now I'll go through the data base again and see if I can find a match for the EKII on Edgar's father's medal bar as I can't see the ring as it is sewn under the ribbon.... HaroldComment

This leads me to another question... Why do some makers make marked crosses and some un-marked crosses? That has been puzzling me. Was it simply a mistake when marking the crosses where some got marked and some didn't or was it on purpose? What are other's comments or ideas on this subject?..... HaroldComment

I am no expert but I was told that some companies in WWII didn't want to be associated with making of the EKs but made them. Don't know how true it is though.

Next cross to identify:
Here is a close up of the reverse side of the EKII on Edgar's father's medal bar. I tried to see if I could get the ring out from behind the ribbon but it is so tight that I couldn't get the ring out without damaging the ribbon.
I compared the reverse side of the medal bar EKII with this KO marked EKII cross

My cross has the same "wiggle" to the stemm as the cross at that link. Opinions welcomed or other other crosses with the same design as my crossComment
